Details

Archibald Knox (1864 to 1933) was an extraordinary artist and designer who was born in the Isle of Man and spent much of his life here. He studied and taught at the Douglas School of Art and worked to design beautiful jewellery and metal work for Liberty's of London. He spent some time in Surrey where he worked as an art teacher. His pupils so valued his work that when he left they saved his designs from a waste paper basket and went on to form the Knox Guild of Design and Craft. Despite the fact that his name does not appear on the stunning artefacts he designed for Liberty's his work is now widely recognised and lauded for its beauty and quality.

We'll stroll along the streets of Douglas to the places Knox knew and loved discussing his amazing life and impact as we go. We will view his work at various places and take in the Archibald Knox exhibition at the Manx Museum towards the end of the trip. Visitors will be able to go on to other significant places around the Island where Knox lived, painted and worked. The walk finishes at the Archibald Knox Sunken Garden on Loch Promenade.
