Trevor Gibbs, an Isle of Man Blue Badge Guide, will present a talk about Sir William Hillary, whom he considers a forgotten hero. Sir William Hillary is credited with establishing what became the RNLI, an organization that has saved countless lives over its 200-year history. In addition to his contributions to maritime safety, he also served as equerry to the son of George III and held the rank of military commander.

A talk by Trevor Gibbs, covering the life and achievements of Sir William Hilary

Castletown Heritage are pleased to host Trevor Gibbs, an Isle of Man Blue Badge Guide, who is going to talk about Sir William Hillary. In Trevor's view he is something of a forgotten hero, being responsible for establishing what became the RNLI, an organisation that saved countless lives over its 200 year history, as well as this, among other things he was equerry to the son of George III, a military commander and philanthropist, responsible for the building of the Tower of Refuge and the Smelt Monument in Castletown.
